A dedicated GPS/OBD device, bought separately and installed on the car, which generates a live fleet map and automatically proposes routes for approval. It's an extra step, for companies that also want a live fleet map, not just routes — it does not replace the manual trip sheet or the automatic version from the phone's GPS (free, no hardware), which remain the app's default flows.

What it is
A small box (Teltonika FMC003 or equivalent) that plugs directly into the car's OBD-II port — the same port used for the technical inspection. It needs no wiring or complicated installation, draws power from the car, and periodically reports, through its own SIM card, the GPS position, speed, and ignition state.
💡 The device is bought separately, per car, and has a recurring data plan (4G SIM). It isn't included with the AutoMeu app, which remains free.
What you see in the app
Live fleet map
The current position of every car with a device installed, updated automatically every 20 seconds — plus a visual "trail" of the last 30 minutes of the route, so you can see where it came from, not just where it is now.
Automatically detected routes
From the sequence of positions (ignition on → moving → ignition off), the app outlines a candidate route on its own — departure/arrival time, distance, estimated mileage. The route appears in a "pending approval" list, never directly on the fiscal sheet.
Someone from the company (owner or driver) chooses the type — business or personal — and approves or rejects it. Only on approval does it become a real entry on the trip sheet, through exactly the same mechanism used for manual entry.
Mileage — how accurate is it
It depends on the car. If the vehicle reports mileage directly from its electronic dashboard (OBD support varies by make/model/year), that's used as the source of truth. If not, the mileage is estimated from the GPS trajectory — the app marks this explicitly, rather than presenting it as a hard fact on a document with fiscal weight.
Transparency toward the driver
Unlike the manual flow (free, no background tracking), GPS/OBD monitoring is real position tracking. The car's driver must be informed explicitly that the device is installed and what data it collects, before installation — a requirement, not an option.

It's not yet self-service from the app — being physical hardware, installation is coordinated directly with the AutoMeu team. Write to contact@automeu.ro with the number of cars in your fleet; we'll guide you through ordering, installation, and the initial setup.

GPS/OBD monitoring is added on top of it, car by car. The free manual flow remains available any time, no matter how many cars you've equipped.

Do I need GPS to use the trip sheet for my company?
No. The free, manual flow from your phone remains the default — and there's also a free automatic version straight from the phone's GPS, with no device to buy. The dedicated GPS/OBD device is an optional extra layer, only for companies that also want a live fleet map.
Does it cost anything?
Yes — the dedicated GPS/OBD device is bought separately, per car, plus the data plan for its SIM card. The AutoMeu app itself remains free; the cost is strictly for the hardware installed on the car.
Does the automatically detected route go straight onto the fiscal trip sheet?
Never automatically. Every detected route appears as a proposal, "pending approval" — someone from the company confirms it (choosing the type, business or personal) or rejects it, before it becomes a real entry on the sheet.
